A pediatrician named Ernesto Cesar Torres has been sentenced to decades in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in Frederick, Maryland, USA. Torres, 74, was accused in 2019 by a mother who claimed her daughter had been sexually abused during a pediatric examination in May of that year.
Subsequent investigations revealed a pattern of abuse dating back to 1980, with Torres attributing the accusations to his victims and “demonic entities.” Police were alerted to Torres’ misconduct when the 2019 accuser reported feeling uncomfortable and accused him of inappropriate behavior.
Following an interview with the initial accuser, Frederick city police arrested Torres, leading to the identification of 24 additional victims between 1980 and 2018. Prosecutors described how Torres would commit sexual offenses under the guise of medical examinations, with some parents unaware of the abuse happening in front of them.
During his sentencing, Torres showed no remorse and claimed that “demonic entities” were influencing the young girls to lie about him. Prosecutors condemned his lack of accountability and manipulation of the victims, emphasizing the perseverance of the victims and legal team in seeking justice.
Despite facing numerous criminal charges for sexually abusing juvenile patients, Torres received a 30-year sentence with a portion to be reduced for time served. Prosecutors plan to pursue further cases against Torres to ensure he serves a longer sentence. Victims and families shared their emotional testimonies in court, expressing the long-lasting impact of Torres’ actions.
