A tree fell onto a bungalow during the turmoil caused by Storm Claudia in the UK. Images captured the moment when a tree uprooted and crashed into a residence in Manchester. Residents in Bollington, Cheshire were evacuated as another tree toppled onto homes and caused power line disruptions.
The storm also created chaos in the transportation networks of the region, leading to disruptions in train and Metrolink services due to fallen trees. Storm Claudia is expected to subside overnight, although more rainfall is predicted for Greater Manchester the following day with less severe winds.
The Met Office issued Amber flood warnings, indicating a “danger to life” for two UK regions as Storm Claudia approached. The weather agency has expanded the warning to include Wales, Yorkshire, Humber, East Midlands, and Lincolnshire due to the ongoing impact of the storm.
The National Weather Agency warned of heavy rain as Storm Claudia, previously named by the Spanish Meteorological Service, approached. Closure of Lapland Manchester was prompted by the anticipation of high-speed winds and severe weather conditions, citing safety concerns for the public.
Furthermore, three flood alerts are active in the region, including the River Mersey near Tameside, Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham, Urmston, and the River Bollin catchment encompassing Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield, and Bollington. Potential flooding in these areas is expected due to rising river levels, particularly affecting low-lying land and roads near various rivers and their tributaries.
Areas around Knutsford, Wilmslow, Hale, Macclesfield, and Bollington are likely to experience impacts from the flooding.
