However, upon his return to office, Trump’s stance shifted, leading to clashes with Republicans advocating for the files’ public release. This shift raised suspicions about his reluctance to disclose the documents. Trump’s prior association with Epstein, evident through a 2003 “birthday letter” allegedly from Trump to Epstein, added to the intrigue. Eventually, Massie allied with Democrats to pass a bill compelling the release of the files by December 19, an action that Trump ultimately supported under mounting pressure.
By December 19, the US Justice Department is mandated to make the Epstein Files public. The bill garnered overwhelming support in Congress, passing with 427 votes in favor to one against. Subsequently, the Senate approved the bill through unanimous consent, and Trump signed it into law, despite having the authority to release the files independently at any time.
