Toronto Blue Jays’ power hitter, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has been cleared to return to the lineup after spending time on the seven-day injured list. He is set to play against the New York Yankees on Saturday. Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week when he collided with New York’s rookie shortstop, George Lombard Jr., in a peculiar play at third base during the sixth inning. Despite the impact that dislodged his helmet, Guerrero managed to score before leaving the game.
Having completed his final concussion assessments, Guerrero rejoined the team on Friday. He demonstrated his readiness by taking swings in the batting cage after participating in a minor league rehab game for single-A Dunedin, where he doubled. In the upcoming game against the Yankees, Guerrero is slated to bat second in the lineup following the Blue Jays’ 3-1 loss in the series opener on Friday. In a corresponding roster move, the Jays have sent infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero boasts a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to his injury, he had been on a hot streak, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
