“Sky Q Faces Competition from Humax Aura EZ 4K Recorder”

Sky Q, a highly esteemed set-top box, is known for its exceptional features such as live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its popularity, Sky is shifting focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, indicating a move away from the traditional satellite-powered platform. This shift could pave the way for potential competition in the market.

Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a new device that rivals Sky Q with similar functionalities. The Aura EZ boasts a 2TB built-in hard drive, allowing ample storage for TV shows, movies, and sports recordings. The inclusion of internal storage is noteworthy as physical recording options are becoming scarce.

Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ leverages Freely technology, enabling live TV viewing over broadband. Powered by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand programs. This setup offers flexibility in moving the device between rooms, easy installation, and regular feature updates.

Key features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can control the device remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.

While Freely lacks premium sports and movie content like Sky, it stands out as a free-to-use platform without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for a UK launch in February 2026 with a recommended retail price of £249.

In a related development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a discounted monthly rate of £24. This bundle includes access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also enjoy over 130 premium channels, such as Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle comprises:

– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (starting March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with selected content from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
