“British Gas Expert: Use Oven Heat to Cozy Up Home”

An energy specialist from British Gas has shared a clever tip to keep your home cozy without relying on your central heating system. According to energy engineer Jessica Rawstron, you can harness the residual heat from your oven by leaving its door open after cooking to gradually warm up your kitchen.

Jessica emphasized the idea of not letting the heat go to waste once your meal is ready and suggested using it to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home while you enjoy your food. She advised caution with kids and pets around the open oven door.

In addition to this tip, British Gas has provided various suggestions to prepare your home for the winter season, such as sealing any gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts. It’s also crucial to ensure your radiators are functioning efficiently by bleeding them regularly and keeping up with your annual boiler service.

As the UK faces yellow warnings for snow and ice, households are bracing for colder temperatures, leading to increased energy consumption. Energy bills have risen again, with the average annual cost for gas and electricity now at £1,758 for households paying by direct debit. The price cap sets limits on unit rates and standing charges, but the total bill still depends on the energy usage.

For those on pre-payment meters or paying upon receipt of the bill, the price cap stands at £1,711 and £1,894 per year, respectively. The price cap is revised quarterly, with the next update scheduled for April 2026. Stay informed with the latest news by selecting Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News.
