Renowned fashion designer Paul Costelloe, who previously worked closely with Princess Diana, has passed away at the age of 80, as confirmed by his fashion brand. The brand announced his peaceful passing in London after a brief illness, surrounded by his wife and seven children. They have requested privacy for the family during this time of mourning.
Born in Dublin in 1945, Costelloe began his career in Paris before moving to Milan to support Marks and Spencer’s endeavors in the Italian market. Despite the unsuccessful venture, he stayed in Milan as a designer for La Rinascente before moving to New York. There, he worked with renowned personalities and eventually launched his own label, Paul Costelloe Collections.
Costelloe gained significant recognition as Princess Diana’s personal designer from 1983 until her passing in 1997, creating elegant formal attire for her. His brand, which offers a wide range of collections from apparel to accessories, continues to thrive. Additionally, he excelled in designing corporate wear for major companies and sports teams like British Airways, Delta Airlines, and the Irish Olympic Team.
His enduring legacy was showcased at the recent London Fashion Week with a collection titled Boulevard Of Dreams, inspired by the vibrant streets of 1960s Beverly Hills. Costelloe remained actively involved in leading his design team until his demise.
In 2010, he was honored as one of the featured Irish fashion designers on a set of postage stamps issued by An Post. Furthermore, he served as a celebrity guest judge alongside other industry luminaries.
