A fatal shark attack has claimed the life of a woman and left a man severely wounded on the eastern coast of Australia.
Authorities responded to a beach in Crowdy Bay, situated approximately 360 kilometers (224 miles) north of Sydney, following an early morning shark attack on two individuals in their twenties, as reported by the Associated Press.
The man sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a medical facility, while the woman tragically passed away at the scene. Witnesses provided assistance prior to the arrival of ambulance personnel.
Authorities intend to collaborate with experts to identify the shark species involved in the attack. As a precaution, the beach at Crowdy Bay National Park has been closed to swimmers.
The national park is renowned for activities such as beach camping and fishing, according to AP.
Earlier in September, a man in his fifties was fatally attacked by a shark at a Sydney beach. Parts of the man’s surfboard were recovered at Long Reef Beach.
