Gail’s bakery chain has announced that ten of its stores will be open for business on Christmas Day. Additionally, customers visiting these locations on December 25 will receive complimentary mince pies. All Gail’s bakeries will maintain regular operating hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
In a recent Instagram post, Gail’s emphasized the availability of selected bakeries on Christmas Day, inviting patrons for a relaxing morning with coffee, bread, and a warm atmosphere. To show gratitude to those spending part of their day at Gail’s, the chain will offer free mince pies while supplies last.
Acknowledging diverse ways of celebrating Christmas, Gail’s highlighted the personal choices made by their teams each year.
Furthermore, Gail’s shared plans to expand its presence with the opening of 40 new stores in England, particularly outside London. Over the previous financial year, Gail’s launched 36 cafes, including the first establishments in the southwest region of England. The upcoming 40 stores are slated to open by the end of February 2026.
Despite achieving a sales figure of £278 million in the fiscal year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase from the prior year, Gail’s reported a rise in pre-tax losses to £7.8 million due to expenses related to business operations and staff costs associated with store expansions.
With over 4,000 employees as of February, an increase of around 500 from the previous year due to recruitment efforts, Gail’s also operates a wholesale business that supplies baked goods to supermarkets like Waitrose and Ocado.
Starting at approximately £4.80, Gail’s sourdough loaves are a popular choice among customers. The company noted that its bakery segment is the fastest-growing and most profitable division within the group, emphasizing the importance of offering innovative food in appealing neighborhood bakery settings.
