Miracle toddler Finn Watkinson is now beaming with joy after defying the odds and coming back to life 90 minutes after his heart stopped beating.
Facing a terrifying moment, his parents witnessed from afar as a surgeon performed a life-saving procedure on Finn’s heart by massaging it internally. Against all odds, Finn miraculously survived the ordeal.
Finn’s mother, Amy Whittingham, described him as a bright and cheerful child, completely unaware of the open heart surgery and near-death experience he faced just a few months ago.
At two years old, Finn has a rare genetic condition known as Williams Syndrome, often called ‘happy syndrome’ due to the outgoing and friendly nature of individuals with the disorder. Unfortunately, it also predisposes them to heart issues.
Initially discovered during a routine check, Finn’s heart murmur led to the revelation of a severe defect requiring urgent surgery to correct narrowing arteries in both sides of his heart.
Despite a successful six-and-a-half-hour surgery, Finn unexpectedly went into cardiac arrest during the night, leading to a tense situation that required emergency intervention to revive him.
Following a harrowing 90 minutes of clinical efforts and numerous adrenaline shots, Finn’s heartbeat was eventually restored, but his condition remained critical for the next two days, prompting emotional farewells from his family.
Refusing to give up hope, Amy played Finn’s favorite music each morning, maintaining his routine and encouraging his recovery. Remarkably, after five days, Finn was weaned off life support and transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where his cheerful demeanor quickly resurfaced.
Despite suffering a hypoxic ischemic brain injury due to oxygen deprivation during the ordeal, Finn’s progress has been positive, allowing him to return home in mid-August with hopes of a complete recovery.
His love for music, particularly the Jonas Brothers, plays a significant role in his daily routine, reflecting his joyful and resilient spirit after overcoming tremendous challenges at such a young age.
Amy expressed her deep gratitude for Finn’s survival, emphasizing his resilience and the profound impact he has had on everyone around him, describing him as a true inspiration and a shining example of strength and positivity.
