Virgin Media has announced that some of its broadband customers are in for an upgrade to their home routers. The company is rolling out a transition to a more advanced technology for users still using the older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices. These outdated routers do not offer the same level of performance as the newer Hub 5, which boasts upgraded Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will be notified via email in the coming weeks and months as the upgrade takes place gradually throughout 2026. Virgin Media’s latest router, the Hub 5, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas for enhanced coverage, will benefit thousands of customers during this upgrade process.
If you qualify, Virgin Media will contact you directly, so there is no immediate action required. You can also check your eligibility by accessing your My Virgin Media account online. Upgrading your router can significantly enhance your broadband experience, providing wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. The Hub 5 is designed to handle faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming. In fact, Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, more than ten times faster than the UK average.
Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless networking technology, offers faster speeds, greater efficiency, and improved performance in busy environments. It can accommodate more devices simultaneously, deliver enhanced performance across different bands, and is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands. While Wi-Fi 7 is now available, Wi-Fi 6 remains perfect for the average user.
