British Man Dies After Cosmetic Procedures in Turkey, Ignites Safety Concerns

The family of a British man who passed away following dental and hair transplant procedures in Turkey has honored him as the beacon of their lives. Mentor Rama, aged 36, traveled to Istanbul for the treatments but fell ill upon returning to his hotel room. He was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where he tragically succumbed on November 11. Subsequently, his body was transferred to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul, prompting an official investigation by the authorities.

A representative from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) expressed, “We are assisting the family of the deceased British national in Turkey and are collaborating with local officials.” A heartfelt message on a relative’s public Facebook page conveyed deep sorrow, reminiscing about the departed’s warmth and strength that illuminated their lives. The family requested peace for his soul and eternal rest in heaven.

Reports indicate that Rama’s remains have been repatriated to the UK after being released to his family. Turkey has emerged as a favored spot for Britons seeking cost-effective cosmetic treatments, although some journeys have ended in tragedy. The Foreign Office disclosed that over 28 British citizens lost their lives in Turkey due to elective procedures from March 2019 to March 2024. Clinics in Turkey are renowned for offering attractive “medical tourism packages.”

Seeking affordability, many individuals opt for dental treatments in Turkey, commonly known as “Turkey teeth,” which can be up to 60% cheaper than in the UK. Despite the cost savings, dentists caution against such practices due to potential complications. Dentists urge vigilance and thorough consideration before opting for dental procedures abroad.
